An AKC Licensed Specialty Club

The Potomac Valley Samoyed Club (PVSC) is an AKC licensed Samoyed breed club serving the metropolitan DC area. Founded in 1966 and incorporated in Maryland, it covers the communities of the Potomac Valley watershed in:

Maryland
The District of Columbia
Northern Virginia
West Virginia

Supporter of the Samoyed Club of America

PVSC has been involved with the SCA since our founding and supports the SCA's Breeders Code of Ethics

PVSC organized and successfully managed both the 1975 and 1983 Samoyed Club of America National Specialties. Club members also participated in the organization and management of the 2000 and 2002 National Specialties.

PVSC sponsors two AKC licensed specialty shows each year--one in the Fall and one in the Spring. For Information about these and other upcoming events, and for pictures from past club activities, visit Events page.

Join Gidget for a stroll under the Cherry Blossoms at the Tidal Basin this Saturday, April 4th.

Meet at the Washington Monument at 10:00 a.m. Bring water, poop bags, treats, money and cameras. Leave the flexi-leash at home. It will just be too crowded and you don't want to spend all your time untangling bystanders.

INFORMATION FAIR ON THE NATIONAL MALL

On Sunday, June 15, 2008, the Potomac Valley Samoyed Club hosted a Samoyed Information Fair on the Mall in Washington, DC.

The purpose of the fair was to spread the word about our wonderful Samoyeds--to provide demonstrations of the many activities in which they participate, how to groom them and present all kinds of other information about them.

In the afternoon we took our Samoyeds for a walk around the Washington Monument. It was a grand sight to see so many beautiful Samoyeds parading together around the Monument.

Purpose of The Potomac Valley Samoyed Club

Since its founding in 1966, PVSC has promoted the Samoyed breed for the purposes of showing, obedience training, agility training, sledding, herding and as loving family pets. To that end, the club provides handling classes, fun matches, an annual information fair, two specialty shows a year, and a list of qualified, responsible breeders from which to obtain sound, healthy puppies and advice and guidance as to what to do with them.

PVSC welcomes inquiries about membership from all who are interested in the Samoyed, and welcomes your questions about the breed. We are an informal bunch who have a common interest--our Samoyed dogs. Come join us in the fun...

MEMBERSHIP

Since our purpose is the promotion and well being of Samoyeds, our membership is open to anyone who is interested in the breed. You don't even have to have a Sammy to join.

There is one requirement, however, that must be met to be considered for membership and to retain membership--any prospective member, whether a breeder of Samoyeds or not, must sign an agreement to abide by the PVSC breeder's code, and, if breeding, must adhere to it to remain a member.

We are particularly interested in those getting started in the breed. Many of us had the same experience--new to the breed, joined the club and got a lot of support and pointers from the older hands. We want to do the same for others.

Now, if you are an 'old hand' at Sammies, we have something to offer you too. Many of our members have been involved in Samoyeds (and other breeds) for decades. We have members who are professional handlers, who show regularly, who have been presidents of obedience clubs and all-breed clubs, who judge Samoyeds in the conformation ring, who judge obedience, who have been show chairmen, who have been obedience instructors and who have produced dogs that have taken top classes at national Samoyed specialties.

So we are a mix of new-to-the-breed and been-around-a-while, united by our interest in the Samoyed. As you can see above, we're not a stuffy bunch, and although some of us put on the fancy duds for dog shows, Levis and sweatshirts are more our style--and if you've ever had a Sammy jump up on you, you'll know why.
